Call to arms!

We need as many people as possible to respond to the Government when their review of the National Curriculum comes and goes to consultation. The Curriculum Foundation (Mick Waters et al) is urging all its members (I am one) to get 25 others to respond who in turn should urge 25 more.

Read on and see why it is so important to respond en masse:

What might the review of the national curriculum say?

The far reaching proposals are likely to:

Quality SEF remarked upon by OFSTED!

For all those of you who invested in my SEF AID service last year , and have continued to do so this year, I just wanted to let you know that one school I worked with has just had an OFSTED and the Lead Inspector was very complimentary about the SEF!

Makes it all worthwhile somehow!

Although  the SEF is  no longer compulsory (courtesy of Mr Gove) schools are still required to self evaluate rigorously  and so are advised to continue to update in the current format this year.

OK, now I am really cross!

How is it that a 0.5% rise in Scottish Higher examinations this year is hailed as a major success by Radio 4 on the Today programme, when yesterday's announcement of a whole 1% rise in  L4+ (KS2 SATS in English and in maths) was greeted with doom and gloom and "Yes, but one in three do not reach the level...." etc etc ?

Change the record!

KS2 SATS results 2010

So... according to Radio 4 this morning (4th August 2010)  ".....almost a third of pupils are still  failing to reach the expected standards at the end of KS2." I question how that can be when 81% attained L4 in English this year and 80%  did so in maths! In my day 20% was definitely a fifth , and a third was 33.3%.

These made a difference 2009/10. Could they help you?

Schools have been enthusiastic about the tailored support received in the first year of my consultancy. So much so, that I felt an update on some of the things I have been up to in the past ten months was required, so that when you are planning improvements for the coming academic year, you are aware of what has been developed, and is on offer.

Are you a "competent other"?

I thought you might  need a bit of cheering up after the snow and the volcano wrought havoc with your routines, and now the SATS fiasco is taking up all your time. So ...this might bring a wry smile.

Make the learning deep and profound

"On the Edge of Don't Know"- a day that makes you think and a day that takes learning to new depths. Based on theories of dialogic teaching this is a day that moves teaching that is already often outstanding to a more consistent, sustainable level
